Estate planning is overwhelming period. But when you’re doing that planning and disability is involved, it gets even more complex.
That’s why the next DISABILIFINANCE webinar will focus on estate planning issues. Presenting is Jillian Zacks, Esq., a Pittsburgh-based estate attorney who specializes in disability planning. Before we get into some of the content she’ll cover, here are the important details you need to know:
Date: November 15, 2024
Time: 4p Eastern
CFP Board CE hours: 1.0
How to attend: Get your ticket here
Supplemental Needs Trusts
The first thing Jillian will be covering is supplemental needs trusts (also known as special needs trusts or SNTs.) These are vehicles that shelter assets for programs like SSI or Medicaid. There are two different kinds of SNTs. One has Medicaid payback provisions. The other does not.
Plus, as you age, there’s ways to use an existing SNT to shelter assets rather than spending them down as other family members think about enrolling in some of these programs.
ABLE accounts
ABLE accounts are more of a living account than a dying account. But sometimes they can make sense in an estate plan as they offer different features compared to an SNT.
Jillian’s a pro at laying out how and why you might want to integrate these asset-sheltering accounts into your long-term financial planning.
Do I have to be a financial planner to attend?
Nope! Absolutely not. While this webinar does offer CFP Board CE hours and will be structured to meet CFP Board requirements, there’s no certification requirement to attend. All are welcome.
